A Court of Mist and Fury – Review

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Goodreads rating: 4.76 stars

My rating: 5 stars

Synopsis: Feyre survived Amarantha’s clutches to return to the Spring Court—but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can’t forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin’s people.

Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms—and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world cleaved in two.

-Spoiler free review-

Sarah J. Maas has never failed to write stupendous books.

Every one of them is deliriously captivating- but none more so than A Court of Mist and Fury. Her writing style is just so beautiful; I would happily have practically every sentence on a mug.

I was (sadly) spoiled for a pretty major plot point (c’mon guys I had exams), and I didn’t exactly like the sound of it before I started the book. But might I just say- Sarah completely coaxed me into it. The evolution of the plot was so well executed, and we were introduced to some absolutely wonderful new characters (I’m in love with them all, even if they’re not all 10/10 for morals) which, I think, is exactly what this book needed.

Sarah also show-cased another of her many skill sets in writing an extremely tense scene akin to a horror novel. Of course, I won’t ruin it for anyone, but my god- she had my heart pounding and palms sweating. Perhaps not the best thing to read before bed!

It’s rare to find those perfect books, but honestly it’s so difficult for me to find fault with ACOMAF. I think the only tiny thing I found was that the tension/suspense was drawn out a little too much. But I mean- that’s me being terribly pernickety.

Oh and let’s talk about that ending for a moment! It’s incredibly hard to say anything without a spoiler slipping out but… I’m in love, and need, need, NEED the next one! I’m so anxious though because ACOTAR3 is the last one in the series! Although we are getting a few more books which is exciting.

So all in all, 5 brilliant stars that listen for this gorgeous book. We’ve just got Empire of Storms to wait for now!

  1. Huhu I loved ACOMF too. Maybe not too much as you (you seem like a die hard fan 😂) but I definitely enjoyed this book. I am not really advertising here but please read my review of it in my blog, I just really need some serious conversation about the book. It really is good. Best YA I’ve read, and I don’t even like the genre! A really good author, Sarah is. 😃

      1. I’m very willing to try her Throne of Glass series, but I need to read A Gathering of Shadows first. 😂
